Your new Dish Network digital high definition satellite receiver is the single most important piece of equipment in your home entertainment system. This is the ‘enabler’ for signals to be received from Dish Network’s fleet of nine satellites in orbit around the Earth and transmitted into your home. Dish Network offers more in the way of home entertainment than any other satellite provider, and their ever-growing subscriber base of 12 million attests to this fact.

Satellite television receivers are manufactured by several companies and are easily connected to televisions. The rear panel of the receiver contains all the important features and operations of the receiver: card access, receiver identification number, AC power input, Dolby digital output, phone jack and antenna inputs, Component Video output (DVR), TV/VCR output, S-video output, and Sat In. The Sat In connects the cable from the satellite dish to the receiver. All this information is contained in the instruction manual should you ever need to install or re-install it on the occasion of moving place of residence. All the required component parts and connectors are included with your Dish Network digital high definition satellite dish.

The receiver may become overheated from time to time, losing the decoder message and on occasion it may completely expire. Overheating is caused by a surge in the receiver and can be avoided by putting two capacitors on the power supply board. This should be done rather quickly before the receiver completely stops functioning.

The main function of the Dish Network satellite television receiver is to maximize incoming digital high definition signaling from satellites. The receiver comes with many features, including an Advanced Program Guide, a Parental control, universal remote, digital audio and video output for recording, and DVR features. Whether digital or standard signaling, the receiver allows for the best transmission of signals from the satellite to your television screen.

Crystal-clear imaging and CD quality sound are produced every time you turn your television on to enjoy one of the over 256 channels of diverse programming offered by Dish Network. Dish Network features 500 commercial-free premium movies each month and 50 channels of digital Sirius music. Their programming lineup includes an offer of five different packages with something to please everyone. From sports to educational, interactive gaming with national and local weather and traffic updates, children’s and adult programming, multi-cultural international channels in different languages, life-style channels, pay-per-view availability, and soon to be karaoke channeling – all for your viewing selection and enjoyment. Their free gift of a Dish Network Digital Video Recorder only enhances your viewing pleasure. It allows you to seamlessly record up to 100 hours of choice programs creating your own library of favorites – be it movies, sports events, or music. All digitally reco rded and stored on the DVR hard drive. You can record, fast-forward, rewind, and pause – even pausing live shows for interruptions. Click on Dish Network now to get more information and details of Current offers, pricing information, and instructions ordering installation.

The Dish Network digital high definition satellite receiver is the most important component followed by your choice in programming. Relax and enjoy the best advanced technology has to offer: Dish Network Satellite television services.

Dish network service is offered all over the U.S. including Hawaii, Alaska and Puerto Rico. It is not viewable outside US. To catch the proper signal for Dish network proper size of dish is required. Usually a local retailer is able to help the consumer for suggesting the correct size of the dish required to catch proper signals in the local area.

Dish network broadcasts mostly all types of sports channels that show baseball, basket ball, college football, soccer, English Premier League. It also broadcasts all national channels such as ESPN, ESPN2, Fox Sports World, ESPN Classic, USA, WGN, TBS or TNT, etc. Dish network also offers pay-per-view option for various sports channels. It also offers Horse racing TV and TV games. All premier American track races are available on TVG featured by Dish network. Along with the interactive and sports program, dish network also airs regular HDTV Channels under the HD Pak. This pack includes HDNET, HDNET Movies, ESPN HD, Discovery Theater and TNT HD, for $9.99 per month. The VOOM original pack offers Rush HD, HD News, Gallery HD, Rave HD, Animania HD, Ultra HD, Equator HD, Monsters HD, Guy TV HD, and The Majestic HD.

The price reception and channel selection is better than cable but in some area customer service and access to local channels can cause problems. Dish network offers wide range of channels to select from their laid out menu. The TV comes in quick with excellent reception of channels without any snow or fuzz.

Dish network offers one year warranty on their products. The receiver and the remotes also works in superb manner. Remote is capable of multi-tasking. The picture quality and the reception of the signals are unprecedented as compared to the cable network. The satellite TV offers DVD quality of picture and perfect sound quality as well.

Dish network offers a wide variety of channels to view. It is suggested to activate the parental lock immediately after the purchase of the dish network system. Dish network also offers various shopping channels for the ones who love shopping from home. It has lesser commercials to air which is quite pleasant as compared to the cable TV network.

Dish network allows you to watch separate programming on two televisions with one Dish TV network receiver. This can be achieved with the help of dual-tuner Dish player that allows watching programming on two televisions. It also allows to record, pause and replay live TV. Some of the Dish players also support Picture-in-Picture support.

Some people do not like the steel colored dish and like to paint the dish to blend with the color of the house. It is definitely not at all recommended as painting the dish results in loss of signals. Moreover, obstruction due to building, trees, mountains, high tension power lines also result in loss of signals. Dish should be installed in such a place where it receives clear signals free from any obstruction.

Recent popularity.

The last few years have seen an explosion of people choosing satellite over cable or network Tv. Recent polls show some common reasons being superior picture quality, larger selection of channels and programs, increased availability, good customer service and the continuing drop in price.

This has been accompanied by large advertising campaigns from satellite Tv retailers. This has no doubt succeeded in demystifying the technology.

DIRECTV or DISH Network?

Though there are other satellite TV systems (ie; Sky Angel), DIRECTV and DISH Network are the twin giants in the industry. Between them they claim the overwhelming majority of all satellite TV systems sold in the United States.

Interestingly, the satellite system services offered by both DIRECTV and DISH Network are practically interchangeable — both offer more than 200 program channels, integrated digital video recording (DVR) capabilities, high definition TV (HDTV) capabilities, stunning picture and sound quality and award-winning 24-hour customer service departments.

Where they differ is in pricing and programming. DIRECTV’s packages are a little more expensive, however they do normally include more channels. DISH Network offers more International and movie channels.

How the legitimate online retailers work.

You place an order with an online satellite TV system retailer. Some actually have tools on their webpage that allows customers to design systems perfectly matched to their home. At the time of ordering you will schedule a time that a local professional installer can come to your home and install the system. The satellite system will either be shipped to your home before the installation date or the installer will bring it with them.

It is really that easy. The retailers that have been around a few years have this process streamlined for efficiency. All the customer needs to do is be at home during the installation.

Fraudulent websites & potential pitfalls.

Unfortunately, with any hot product come the scammers. Hundreds of “Satellite TV” websites have popped up, claiming to offer the best satellite dish deals and promotions. Their websites look slick to lure unsuspecting customers. Many promise monthly subscription rates under $10 and next-day installation. But once a customer signs up they find:

* Hidden “activation” and “usage” fees * High shipping costs for “free” extras * Installation dates continuously missed or pushed back * Shoddy installations performed by cheap, inexperienced contractors * Zero help or customer service * Outrageous cancellation fees

Most of these SCAM sites won’t even respond to customer issues. Eventually they get shut down due to too many customer complaints, or the State Attorney General forces them out of business. But the customer has already lost their money, and the SCAMMERS just open another satellite TV website under a different name in a different state. It’s definitely “buyer beware”.

Yes, you can find good deals on Satellite TV systems.

If you can stay away from the SCAM websites, it is possible to find authentic good … even great … deals on Satellite TV systems.

Before signing up for satellite TV through an online retailer, you should be sure that it satisfies the following minimum requirements:

* In business for at least 1 year. * Must be certified by the network. * Have at least 1000 installations. * No “hidden” fees. * Customer service available via phone, chat or email. * 100% guaranteed. (full refund if installation fails)

Dish Network, and other satellite TV providers didn’t just appear over night. The development of satellite television took years and its origins can be traced back to the 1950s and the space race.

The original concept of satellite television is often attributed to writer Arthur C. Clarke, who was the first to suggest a worldwide satellite communications system. Funding for satellite technology in the U.S. began in the 1950s, amidst the space race, and the Russian launching of the satellite Sputnik in 1957.

The first communication satellite was developed by a group of businesses and government entities in 1963. Syncom II orbited at 22,300 miles over the Atlantic; the first satellite communication was on July 26, 1963, between a U.S. Navy ship in Lagos, Nigeria and the U.S. Army naval station in Lakehurst, New Jersey.

Overloaded land based distribution methods had the telephone companies utilizing satellite communication way before the television industry even came into the picture. In fact, it was not until 1978 that satellite communication was officially used by the television industry.

In 1975, RWT’s co-founder and BBC transmitter engineer Stephen Birkill built an experimental system for receiving Satellite Instructional Television Experiment TV (SITE) transmissions, beamed to Indian villages, from a NASA geostationary satellite.

Birkill extended his system, receiving TV pictures from Intelsat, Raduga, Molniya and others. In 1978, Birkill met up with Bob Cooper, a cable TV technical journalist and amateur radio enthusiast in the U.S., who invited him to a cable TV operators’ conference and trade show, the CCOS-78. It was there that Birkill met with other satellite TV enthusiasts, who were interested, and ready to help develop, Birkill’s experiments.

Interest in Television Receive Only (TVRO) satellite technology burst forward. The American TVRO boom caught the attention of premium cable programmers, who began to realize the potential of satellite TV. Back in the mid-1970s, TV reception was the under the control of international operators, Intelsat and Intersputnik.

On March 1, 1978, the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) introduced Public Television Satellite Service. Satellite communication technology caught on, and was used as a distribution method with the broadcasters from 1978 through 1984, with early signals broadcast from HBO, TBS, and CBN (Christian Broadcasting Network, later The Family Channel). TVRO system prices dropped, and the trade organization, Society for Private Commercial Earth Stations (SPACE), and the first dealerships were established.

Broadcasters realized that everyone had the potential to receive satellite signals for free, and they were not happy. But the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) was governed by its open skies’ policy, believing that users had as much right to receive satellite signals as broadcasters had the right to transmit them.

In 1980, the FCC established the Direct Broadcast Satellite (DBS), a new service that consisted of a broadcast satellite in geostationary orbit, facilities for transmitting signals to the satellite, and the equipment needed for people to access the signals. In turn, broadcasters developed methods of scrambling their signals, forcing consumers to purchase a decoder, or a direct to home (DTH) satellite receiver, from a satellite program provider.

From 1981 to 1985, the big dish satellite market soared. Rural areas gained the capacity to receive television programming that was not capable of being received by standard methods.

The Satellite Broadcasting and Communications Association of America (SBCA) was founded in 1986 as a merger between SPACE and the Direct Broadcast Satellite Association. But by this point, American communication companies had soured on the prospect of satellite TV. Broadcast cable was very successful at this time, and the satellite industry received a lot of negative press coverage. Fifty percent of all satellite retailers closed their businesses.

Business eventually recovered, but the illegal theft of pay television signals was still a problem. Ultimately, encryption has proven to be the ultimate salvation of the satellite industry as it has made the transition from a hardware to software entertainment-driven business.

Early successful attempts to launch satellites for the mass consumer market were led by Japan and Hong Kong in 1986 and 1990, respectively. In 1994, the first successful attempts in America were led by a group of major cable companies, known collectively as Primestar.

Later that year, Direct TV was established, and in 1996, the DISH Network, a subsidiary of Echostar, also entered the satellite TV industry. DISH Network’s low prices forced competing DBS providers to also lower their prices. And an explosion in the popularity of digital satellite TV ensued.

Since the demise of Pegasus and VOOM, there are just two satellite TV service providers battling it out for the top spot — DIRECTV and DISH Network.

Both companies provide excellent service, all-digital broadcast quality, and great customer service. The main difference between the two companies is the programming they provide.

How Satellite TV Service Works

Satellite TV providers such as DIRECTV and DISH Network send a broadcast signal carrying television programming to a satellite orbiting above the earth. The Satellite then broadcasts the signal back down to earth.

This signal is picked up by a satellite TV dish then transmitted to a receiver where it is amplified and sent to a TV screen.

Benefits of Satellite TV Service

* Satellite TV is broadcast in all-digital format, providing the highest quality picture and sound available.

* Satellite TV gives you access to hundreds of different programs, pay-per-view movies, special events, and commercial-free music channels.

* Satellite TV utilizes DVR (digital video recording) receivers so you can record your favorite programs and bypass commercials while watching live TV.

* Satellite TV is much more reliable than cable or over-the-air TV. Broadcast outages average only 1% as opposed to 3%-5% for cable.

Satellite TV Services

DIRECTV

DIRECTV was launched in 1994 and was the first DBS (direct broadcast satellite) service in the world. It is currently the largest satellite TV provider with 14.5 million subscribers. It is ranked #2 in customer satisfaction by J.D. Power and Associates.

You are sitting at home, watching TV, and while your show is entertaining you, outside the weather is getting worse. It starts raining, the wind is getting stronger, but your Satellite Antenna is doing its work as if it is a sunny quiet day.

This is the experience of most people that enjoy Satellite TV and Satellite TV Providers such as Dish Network; Smooth reception no matter what weather it is outside. (Of course a hurricane that can destroy your house may be capable of moving your satellite dish as well.)

Bad weather doesn’t do much to Satellite antenna reception, or your Dish Network service. But sometimes your antenna can lose reception completely and generally there are some obvious reasons for it that you can solve your self very quickly:

No Satellite TV but Free Coffee	You come home from work, sit down in the couch switch on the TV and your Dish Network service and….. Nothing! Your son brings you a cup of coffee and asks how your day was.

When these 2 very rare events occur at the same time and your son is not playing with his basketball outside in the yard like he usually does, you better go check your antenna on the roof (or where ever your antenna is located.) If a very familiar basketball got stuck between the dish and the receiver, you know what to do!

Gardens, Trees and Satellite TV It is the middle of summer, every day is a sunny day, your garden is doing great, you need to water the plants and trees practically every day, but it is worth it. They grow very fast, you get compliments from your neighbors all the time and you’re very happy. You don’t even get upset because your satellite tv seems to have problems every now and then. However, it is getting worse as the weeks pass and you don’t have a clue why. You look at your antenna, trying to follow the line of sight to the skies where somewhere, though invisible to the naked eye, the satellite is doing its work. But your eyes don’t get any further than one of your trees that has grown so much it is now in the line of sight to the satellite. 2 possible solutions; either cut the top out of the tree, or move your antenna so that it can “see” over or along the side of the tree.

Kites, Birthdays and Satellite TV You got your son a kite for his birthday. The next day all Satellites seem to have fallen out of the sky…….. Well, you get the picture.

Of course the examples described above are not to be taken too serious. However, in very rare cases reception problems may occur. In case you hired an installation company for the installation of your Satellite TV system, such as Dish Network, it is best to call them if you have any problems. However, if you are able, do check if there are any problems that can can be cause by external factors. They may be easy to solve and save you the costs of the installation company visiting. Do not take any risks climbing on the roof to reach your antenna. Have qualified people take the risks for you. They are trained and use safety equipment to prevent injuries.

Getting best Satellite TV deal has never been easier with the online facility available at the hit of your fingertips. Why take pain visiting personally to the Satellite TV stores wasting a lot of time and energy when you can get all sorts of information relating to satellite TV deals right on your computer screen in the comfort of your home. And if you were still unmoved, the avalanche of discounts, freebies and gifts that are given for online deal would definitely rock you. The online transaction cut down operating expenses drastically and the retailers’ pass on this benefit to their consumers for remaining one up against their rivals. So what is holding you to experience the unique combination of entertainment and the technology and surprisingly at the price that you would jump for joy.

Competition Is Here To Stay And So Are The Benefits

There is another good news for the new entrants. Satellite TV companies like Dish Network and DirecTV will even go to the extent of giving the satellite deal at free of cost. If the word `free’ makes you cynical, you are not wrong yet not right too.

What does it mean? We all know people are in business to make money and not just to have your `thank you’. But do not forget getting a customer entails some expenses, which companies incur in the form of advertisement and sales promotions etc. You might get equipments and other services absolutely free of cost but in return you might have to take full year subscription. This is a win-win situation. Isn’t it?

Besides the subscription charges, there are various other factors which should be detailed into before zeroing on any one Satellite TV provider like the number of channels, quality of sound and picture reception, availability of any specific channel, equipment availability, customer care service etc.

Before analyzing these factors one by one, you might find it a Herculean task to choose two or three for comparisons amidst so many satellite TV providers competing with each other. Just to ease down your problem, we suggest you could limit your research to the two largest satellite TV providers namely Dish Network and Direct TV.

First you need to have required equipment installed at your premises. Though you are free to choose equipment from wherever you like, but some Satellite TV providers like Dish Network insists for their own equipment. The reason behind the logic is simple. They want the entire process to go trouble-free without going into blame game. DirecTV however gives you full freedom for choosing equipment.

You get sales promotion benefits from Disk Network and DirecTV from time to time but in their own style. While you receive some premium channels for a few months as a free gift from DirecTV, Dish Network gives you credit of 2-3 months subscription.

If you are too crazy about the quality of picture and sound, go for HD TV and the best choice is Dish Network as they are the one who invented it though both companies provide around 8-18 channels for HD TV. The competition is neck to neck, literally.

Dish Network that boasts of another feature is recording facility that makes sure you do not lose your favorite program missing out due to time constraint. DirecTV is working towards providing high-speed Internet at an affordable price through its mega project SPACEWAY.

There are over 150 channels that will give you fulsome entertainment and here choice of either of these two does not make any difference. But if you are looking for some specific channels like sports channels or local channels put your finger on DirecTV without thinking twice. However, Dish Network is making inroads in the heart of US audience with its regional channels like Bridge TV or movie channels and news channels that will keep you informed of the latest all the time.

In nutshell we would say that fierce competition has made the Satellite TV entertainment quite affordable. As one tries to outsmart other with new marketing policy, the other evens with its own and the process of qualitative improvement of the services keep go on and the customer is set to sit at the top.

Free Satellite TV – Marketing Hype or Real Deal? I get asked about the Free Satellite offers a lot. I was reviewing the hundreds of website offering free satellite, and realized that I would just try one out. I chose a website for a Free Dish Network because I liked the channel lineup better.

The website at AllSat provided me with lots of details, and a genuine offer. I proceeded to fill out the online form and place my order.

I was then contacted by an installer, who scheduled my installation and actually arrived on time!

I have to say, I was very impressed with not only the offer of free equipment and programming deals, but also the professionalism.

A friend of mine was looking for Directv satellite and had asked me which provider I had used. I informed him I got dish network, but after calling Allsat, found they have a sister company at ISatellite. He went online and ordered his Directv system.

I waited about a week and called him. He informed me everything had went smoothly and actually offered to buy me lunch for showing him the website because he was going to buy the system at a local store, and this way he got it for free.

So, if you have been wary of these promotional deals in the past, I can now say go for it!

Thinking about getting Dish Network and want some background information on its infrastructure? Then here you go.

DISH Network has been around for over a decade now, providing digital services to millions of customers worldwide. With its most recent launch of EchoStar IX, DISH Network boasts nine state-of-the-art satellites in its primary servicing system. Ever wonder where all those satellites are?

DISH Network launched its first Dish Network Satellite in 1995, just three years after EchoStar was granted its first orbital slot. EchoStar I was launched from Xichang, China and placed at 119 degrees West Longitude on December 28, 1995. In March of 1996, DISH Network begins broadcasting to its customers from its very first uplink center in Cheyenne, Wyoming. EchoStar I services an area that spans the western United States to the Central/Mountain region.

With more than 100,000 customers, the company launched its second Dish Network Satellite, EchoStar II from Kourou, French Guiana in South America in September 1996, just one month after opening its second service center in Thorton, Colorado. Also servicing the Western United States, EchoStar II was built by Lockheed Martin and had a launch weight of a whopping 6,360 pounds. Broadcasting began two months later in November 1996.

In October 1997, EchoStar launches its third Dish Network Satellite, EchoStar III from Cape Canaveral, Florida. Another Lockheed Martin product, EchoStar III weighed in at over 8,000 pounds at launch and orbits at 61.5 degrees West Longitude. The satellite services the Eastern United States and has double the transponders of its two predecessors. Just two months later, DISH Network celebrates its millionth customer.

March of 1998 brings a big change as DISH Network Satellite relocates its world headquarters to the Riverfront building in Littleton, Colorado. Just two months later, EchoStar IV is launched from Baikonur Cosmodrome, Kazakhstan, providing service to the continental U.S., Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico.

Now three years old and growing, Dish Network Satellite launches EchoStar V from Cape Canaveral, Florida in September of 1999. Just one month later, DISH Network Satellite celebrates its 3 millionth customer. Orbiting at 110 degrees West Longitude, EchoStar V services the continental U.S., Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico.

The year 2000 brings a number of changes, including a fourth servicing center in El Paso, Texas. In July, EchoStar VI is launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida, becoming part of the company’s primary satellite system offering core services to the continental United States. In November, DISH Network acquires its 5 millionth customer.

Dish Network Satellite EchoStar VII was launched in February 2002 and takes its place at 119 degrees West Longitude with the company’s other primary satellites. Servicing the continental U.S., Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico, EchoStar VII was launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida and boasted a launch weight of just under 9000 pounds.

EchoStar VIII was launched later that same year, just after the company celebrates its 7 millionth customer milestone. EchoStar VIII was launched from Baikonur Cosmodrome, Kazakhstan and weighed in at 10,274 pounds at launch. Just a few months later, DISH Network systems become available at Wal-Mart stores nationwide.

In April of 2005, DISH Network launched its ninth Dish Network Satellite from a floating platform at the equator. EchoStar IX will orbit at the 121 degrees West Longitude position and join EchoStar’s eight other satellites in bringing digital service to over eight million customers.

As with all technology, there are always common myths and misconceptions that prevent many people from experiencing that, which would drastically improve their lives. This is true with Dish Network’s digital high definition satellite television services.

Many people think that even though there may be 4 different receivers in 4 different rooms, everyone has to watch the same programming. This is not true. Dish Network offers 4 free receivers, one each for 4 different rooms, to enable different viewing interests.

The weather – it consistently affects the quality of programming. As a general rule, this is false; however, if there is heavy and consistent storming, there may be brief interruptions of reception. This is rare and is considered less of a problem to satellite subscribers.

Satellite reception is available only for individual homes. This is another myth as reception if signaling is excellent in apartment complexes as long as the dish is installed facing a southern sky. Many people have them located on their balconies or outside walls. Always remember, though, if you don’t own the apartment or home, be sure to check with the landlord before installation.

High-speed Internet service is only available through cable companies. This is not true. Dish Network offers high-speed Internet service via satellite. Location is not a problem as signals are transmitted through space from Dish Network’s satellites. You will not experience down time from server problems because of weather or maintenance.

Rumor has it that cable companies tell prospective subscribers that their pricing is cheaper than that of satellite programming. This is not true. Comparisons reveal that satellite prices are within the same range and sometimes lower than cable providers with much more value per dollar. The increased availability of diverse programming in selections and the quality of imaging and sound make the difference giving you more for less money. Click on Dish Network now for a complete listing of programming and pricing information.

Cable providers would also have customers believe that customers must purchase all equipment to receive satellite services. Again, this is not true. Dish Network offers all equipment and installation free of charge, and even gifts new subscribers with a Dish Network Digital Video Recorder – further enhancing viewing pleasure. All free with no requirement for long-term commitments. The only item you are charged for is the programming you desire.

A lot of people think that because of the advanced technology utilized in Dish Network’s digital high definition satellite services; there would naturally be expensive equipment repairs at some point in time. While the nature of the expense of equipment repairs may be true, be assured that when you subscribe with Dish Network for an 18-month plan, you receive Dish Home Protection Plan free (regularly $5.99 per month). This is more or less an equipment insurance provided by Dish Network to save subscribers money in repairs and replacements of equipment.

It is hoped that this information will dispel any misunderstands you may have head and enable you to make a positive decision to switch from cable television services to Dish Network digital high definition satellite television services.
